Edward M. Nemeth, MoMM 3-c, 18, was killed January 15, 1945 while serving in the Aleutian Islands. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Nemeth.

San Francisco — The remains of 1,566 Americans who were killed in the Alaskan theater during the war have been returned to the United States for final burial, the army department announced Friday.

The war dead arrived Thursday aboard the U.S. transport Honda Knot.

Among them was Edward M. Nemeth, motor machinist's mate third class, Osage.

Will Be Monday

OSAGE, IOWA - The casketed remains of Motor Machinist Mate Edward Milton Nemeth will arrive Friday and be taken to Champion Funeral Home where the rosary is to be said Sunday evening.

Funeral rites will be Monday at 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Reverend Fr. Thomas Conroy officiating.

Harvey Risse, department of Iowa chaplain, will be in charge of military rites in Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Edward Nemeth was born February 5, 1926. He was graduated from Mitchell High School and entered the navy August 31, 1943. He received training at Farragut, Idaho, then was sent to Alaska. There while on a patrol boat mission he was drowned January 15, 1945, when the craft was caught in a storm.

Survivors include his parents, 105 West Main Street, Osage, three brothers, Emil, Osage; Albert, Kenosha, Wisconsin; Karl, Appleton, Wisconsin; six sisters, Mrs. John Franzen, Chicago; Mrs. Cecil Kallenberg, Kenosha; Mrs. O. H. Popp, Rockwell; Mrs. Norman T. Mossison, York, Pennsylvania; Mrs. Sylvester Welcomb, Kenosha; Mrs. Leo Karl, Chicago.

Preceding him in death were an infant brother, Karl, and infant sister, Katherine.

NOTE: According to Diane Scott's www.findagrave.com page for Edward Nemeth, Edward's mother was Katherine "Jahn" Nemeth, but her cemetery records say her maiden name was "John," And other sources spell it "Jan."
