OSAGE, IOWA — Carl Henry Christiansen, 93, of Osage and formerly of Nora Springs, died Tuesday (Oct. 20, 1998) at the Faith Lutheran Home, Osage.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Rock Creek Lutheran Church, rural Osage, with the Rev. R. Dawson Tornes officiating. Burial will be in Rock Creek Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Champion Funeral Home, 702 State St., Osage and one hour prior to services at the church.
He was born Aug. 19, 1905 near Rock Falls in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa, the son of Hans and Augusta (Wohlert) Christiansen. The family moved to West Cedar Township in Mitchell County where Carl was educated in Cedar School No. 4 and he later attended Nora Springs High School.
Carl was united in marriage to Myrtle Hanson on June 25, 1931 at Rock Creek Lutheran Church. They farmed in Mitchell County until he retired in 1975. Myrtle died on Aug. 4, 1996.
Carl loved sports, two of his favorite teams were the Minnesota Twins and the Iowa Hawkeyes. For many years, he played ball with his brothers on the Cedar All-Stars. He was a well known horseshoe pitcher and was an avid bowler. Carl bowled until he was 91 years old and was a member of the Mason City Bowling Association Hall of Fame.
He enjoyed visits with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carl established Christiansen’s Wildlife Habitat on the family farm and planted many trees.
He was a member of the Rock Creek Lutheran Church where he held various church offices, and served on the Faith Lutheran Home Board of Directors.
He was survived by three daughters, Nancy Folkerts and her husband, Dale, of Rudd; Dorothy Schmidt and her husband, Francis, of Osage; and Helen Randolph and her husband, Randy, of Dallas, Texas; two sons, Dr. Paul Christiansen and his wife, Barbara, of Mount Vernon; and George Christiansen, of Nora Springs; three brothers, John Christiansen and his wife, Marian, of Osage; Larry Christiansen and his wife, Frances, of St. Ansgar; and Glen Christiansen and his wife, AnnaBelle, of Nora Springs; 13 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Myrtle; and two brothers, Al and Herb.
