William Hartnell
Died at Home of
Daughter Wednesday

William Hartnell, 75, passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elmer Lang, early Wednesday morning, after an illness of a short time, caused principally by the infirmities of old age.

Mr. Hartnell was born in England and with his folks came to Salem, Wis., when he was 12 years old. He came to this county ten years later, and fifty-two years ago married Abbie Penney at Stacyville.

He engaged in farming, and became widely known as a breeder of pure-bred cattle. A number of years ago he retired from active life, and he and his wife moved to Stacyville. When their daughter, Mrs. Elmer Lang, took the position of county overseer of the poor, they came to Osage to make their home with her.

Surviving is his wife, and their sons; Bert, Stacyville; Fred, Humboldt, Kans.; Charles, Akron, Ohio; and the daughter mentioned above.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o'clock at the Champion Funeral Home, in charge of Reverend Frank A. Court. Burial will be made in the Osage Cemetery.

NOTE:
**According to the great-grandaughter of William Hartnell the obit is wrong about William's place of birth. Dorchester is the county seat of Dorset(shire), but he was born in Owermoigne, a small village a few miles east. (D. Scott, findagrave.com)
