JOICE, IOWA - Mr. and Mrs. Leonard received word that their nephew, Harold Hoffman, 8, son of Mr. and Mrs. W J. Hoffman of St. Ansgar, died Monday at a Mason City hospital. The boy had broken his arm while playing in the yard at home July 4th.
Gangrene set in the following Saturday. His arm was amputated the next day, July 8th. His condition had been serious since.

BOY DIES FOLLOWING
AMPUTATION OF ARMHarold Leonard Hoffman, son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Joffman, was born November 19, 1937, on the farm home about two miles northeast of Toeterville. When he reached school age he attended Union township district school and was a regular attendant of Sunday School.
While playing in the yard on July 4, he accidently fell and broke his left arm. On Sunday, July 8, he was taken to Mercy hospital in Mason City, where it was found necessary to amputate the arm because gas gangrene had set in. Despite the care of his parents, the doctors and nurses, Harold died at 12:20 Monday morning, July 16, at the age of seven years and seven months.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Hoffman; two brothers, Merle and Dean; and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Casper Hoffman.
Funeral services were held at the boy's home and at the Toeterville Lutheran Church, Thursday, July 19, 1945. Burial was in Toeterville Cemetery.
