Viola Ida (Rachut) Ehlke

(Died June 30, 2010)

Viola Ida Rachut Ehlke, age 87, of Osage, died Wednesday, June 30, 2010, at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 6, 2010, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Osage with Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Burial will be at the St. Ansgar Cemetery in St. Ansgar, Iowa. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage.

Viola was born December 19, 1922, in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa, the daughter of Edward Rachut and Ida (Duenow) Ruehlow Rachut. She was baptized into the Lutheran faith on January 14, 1923, and was confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township, on March 21, 1937. Viola attended Rock Township Grade School through 8th grade and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1941.

She married August John Ehlke on June 24, 1945, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township. They farmed north of St. Ansgar until 1962 when they moved to a farm west of Osage, farming there until retiring in 1982. Viola was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and was a member of the Martha Circle. She was also a member of the Sunshine Circle. Viola enjoyed going to the Osage Senior Center for dinner, one day bus trips, rummage sales and embroidery.

Viola is survived by two daughters, Joanne (Gary) Hyland of Orchard, Carolyn (Phil) Tommeraas of Zumbro Falls, Minnesota; a grandson, Jason (Tricia) Hyland of Waynesboro, Georgia; a great-grandson, Cole Hyland; and her special friend, Helen Duck of Osage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, August in 1997; four half-brothers, Alvin, Harvey and Roy Rachut, and Walter Ruehlow.
