Fred Kesten

Frederick William Kesten, youngest child of Christian and Kathreen Kesten, was born November 29, 1870, in Dodge County, Wisconsin and passed away October 31, 1931, in Howard County, at the age of 60 years, 11 months and 2 days.

He came to Iowa at the age of 20 years and has made his home in this county and Howard County since. He was baptized in infancy in the German Methodist Church and in 1904 he was united with the Baptist Church at McIntire.

Mr. Kesten was married to Nellie Robbins March 15, 1898, and to this union eight children were born: Helen Kinter, Leonard, Inez Fuoss, Arthur, Wava, Vincent, Lillian and Gervis.

He was a kind and loving husband, a good neighbor and friend. Mr. Kesten had been a patient sufferer for the past six months and it was not possible to relieve his sufferings, although his family did all in its power to endeavor to do so.

His wife and children, a brother, John, of Atlanta, Kansas, three grandchildren and many other relatives and his host of friends are left to mourn his passing.

The respect and honor in which he was held was evidenced Tuesday afternoon when the Baptist Church was over-crowded with his relatives and friends, and by the beautiful floral offerings. His pastor, the Reverend Bodenham, addressed words of comfort to those bereaved, using as his text the fourteenth chapter of John.

Interment was made in Riverside Cemetery, at Riceville.
