FORMER RESIDENT OF THIS LOCALITY KILLED

Arthur Baasch, 48, who formerly lived near Saratoga, was killed Saturday at the Grupp Bros lime quarry near Riceville, when he was struck by a 500-gallon tank full of oil.

Mitchell County Coroner R. L. Whitley said death was caused by a broken neck and other fractures.

Baasch was cleaning out a conveyor at the side of the pit 4 or 5 feet from where the tank of fuel oil was placed. A truck slid from an incline, hit the tank of oil and knocked it directly onto Baasch, killing him instantly.

Marvin Sletten of Riceville had parked the truck which somehow became dislodged and slid down the incline about 250 feet, hitting the tank.

The widow and two daughters survive Mr. Baasch.
