Died last Thursday

John Sheldon died at his home Thursday, after an illness of only a few days. Mr. Sheldon had been about as usual the week before, and was apparently in good health. However, a week ago Sunday night he was taken ill, and failed from that time.

John Chauncey Sheldon was born to Thomas and Mary Sheldon in Genoa, Wisconsin on January 20, 1846. He was the eldest of four children.

He lived at Genoa with his parents nine years; then the family moved to Richmond, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. His education was competed at Todd Seminary, Woodstock, Illinois.

At the age of 21 he was married to Cora Hopkins, who died three years later. Three children were born to this union. One son died in infancy, Fred and Minnie survive him.

In 1874 he was married to Margaret Leonard, and to them five children were born: J. Glen, Grace S. T. Guy, Leonard and Maude.

Mr. Sheldon moved to Iowa in 1877 and settled in Douglas Township. After the death of his first wife he went to Chicago and entered the clothing business, but the lure of the west was upon him and he returned to Iowa and settled on a farm in Douglas Township, where he resided for forty-eight years.

He moved to Osage in 1903 where he lived until his death of April 23, 1931.

Surviving is his wife, Margaret, of Osage; Minnie L. Linton, of Pasadena, California; Fred C. of nelson, Minnesota; J. Glen, of Kansas City, Missouri; Grace Kane, Osage; T. Guy, of Waco, Texas, and Maude Nelson, of Marshall town, Iowa. One son, Leonard, preceded him in death. There are ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in the home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Reverend Nelson C. Dreier in charge, and burial was made in the Osage Cemetery.
