Lissa Bartsch was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1868 and moved to Iowa with her parents in 1876, where they settled on a farm near Bassett. She was married to Mr. A. U. Benson in September 1893 and died April 26, 1895, in her 27th year. Mrs. Benson came here as a bride about 18 months ago and those that knew her best, loved her most.
On the morning of the 28th a short service was held at the house, where a large number of her neighbors gathered to take a last look at her, whom they had known so short a time.

The body was then taken to Bassett for funeral services and interment. The crowded house and line of carriages nearly half a mle in length, and the floral gifts evidenced the esteem in which she was held in her childhood home. She was buried on the old homestead where the cemetery is located, in a sightly place, beside two brothers who were buried on the same day some dozen years ago, and where as a girl she gathered wild flowers. It is a sad breaking up of a pleasant and comfortable home and leaves her husband all broken up.

Her mother, of Savage, Nebraska, a brother, of Nashua, a sister, Mrs. John Forbes of New Hampton, came here while others met them at Bassett. Mrs. Harris, of Waterloo, a lifelong friend, was also in attendance and another girl friend, who has been her companion for the past two months was also in attendance.
