Arthur H. Salz, 1927-1997
MASON CITY, IOWA - Arthur H. Salz, 70, of 780 S. Pierce Ave., died Thursday, June 19, 1997, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. today at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. David Shogren officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with a flag folding ceremony at the graveside conducted by the Mason City Memorial Association.
The family suggests memorials to Wesley United Methodist Church.
Arthur H. Salz was born Feb. 19, 1927, in Stacyville, the son of John and Anna (Wiesbrock) Salz. Art attended schools in Stacyville, and then worked on his brother-in-law_s farm. Art served with the Army Air Force after World War II, from Feb. 1, 1946, until July 18, 1946. Art married Betty Vikturek on June 24, 1951, in Manly. Art owned and operated Manly Plumbing and Heating in Manly from 1954 until 1969. He then worked at Plumb Supply in Mason City from 1969 until he retired in February, 1991, as office manager. Art served as assistant fire chief in Manly, and was a Boy Scout leader.
He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, and the Elks Lodge in Albert Lea, Minn.
Survivors include one daughter, Debbie Bernhardsen and her husband, Ben, of Rochester, Minn.; one son, Ted Salz Sr. and his wife, Lori, of Garner; one granddaughter, Samantha Salz of Garner; two grandsons, Ted Salz Jr. of Garner and Bjorn Bernhardsen of Rochester, Minn.; five sisters, Marie Walsh, Ronnie Miller and Joan Toye, all of Osage, Gerri Albrecht of Fairmont, Minn., and Frannie Krotaska of Evansdale; two brothers, Bob Salz of Casper, Wyo., and Jack Salz of Mason City; several nieces and nephews and many special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Al.
The Major-Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., is in charge of arrangements.
