Funeral services were held Saturday, July 7, 2001 at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, for Ray Halbach, age 93, of Stacyville. Rev. Joseph Schneider officiated and interment was in Visitation Catholic Cemetery.

Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, in charge of arrangements. He died Monday, July 2, 2001 at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Ray was born April 22, 1908 in Stacyville the son of Nick and Rose (Brumm) Halbach. Ray was united in marriage to Gertrude Kraus on February 18, 1939 in Stacyville. He took over Halbach Dairy, his father’s business, in Stacyville delivering milk until 1946. He farmed southeast of Stacyville. Ray was involved with the construction and opening of the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in 1972 and served as administrator for 12 years. When he entered the nursing home in 1992, some of the original employees he hired were still working there. Ray was a memberof the Catholic Order of Foresters for over 75 years.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Gertrude on January 10, 1992; two brothers, Wilfred and Al; two sisters, Irene Kinney and Olive Hemann; and great-grandson, Daniel Schildmeyer.

Those that survive him include his three daughters, Jan Motley and husband, Dick of Palatine, Illinois and their children, Mike Motley and his wife, Krista and their daughter, Lily of Crystal Lake, Illinois, Jill Schildmeyer and her husband, Greg and their daughters, Megan and Emily and Kate of St. Charles, Illinois, Nick Motley and his fiancee’ Shawn Dunn of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Ruth Meek and her husband, Bob of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and their sons, Jeff Meek and his friend, Jessica Tomczak of Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Greg Meek and his wife, Debbie and their daughters, Samantha and Amanda Ramsey, MN; Sharon Simpson and her husband Darwin of Chesterfield, Missouri and their daughters, Kristen Wald and her husband Kevin of Rockford, Illinois, Jody Kalma and her husband, Bill of Elkhorn, Wisconsin; two sisters, Bertilla Mullenbach of Rochester, Minnesota and Margaret Stolzenberg of Stacyville; one brother, Fritz Halbach and his wife, Marcella of Stacyville.

RAY HALBACH

STACYVILLE, IOWA - Ray Halbach, 93, of Stacyville, died Monday (July 2, 2001) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

He was born April 22, 1908, in Stacyville, the son of Nick and Rose (Brumm) Halbach.

Ray was united in marriage to Gertrude Kraus on Feb. 18, 1939, in Stacyville. Ray took over Halbach Dairy, his father's business, in Stacyville, delivering milk until 1946. He farmed southeast of Stacyville. Ray was involved with the construction and opening of the Stacyville Community Nursing Home in 1972, and served as administrator for 12 years. When he entered the nursing home in 1992, some of the original employees he hired were still working there. Ray was a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters for more than 75 years.

His funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville, with the Rev. Joseph Schneider officiating. Interment will be in Visitation Catholic Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Visitation Catholic Church with a 4:30 p.m. Forester rosary and a 7 p.m. scripture wake service.

Survivors include three daughters:

Jan Motley and her husband, Dick, of Palatine, Ill., and their children, Mike Motley and his wife, Krista and their daughter, Lily of Crystal Lake, Ill., Jill Schildmeyer and her husband, Greg and their daughters, Megan, Emily and Kate of St. Charles, Ill., and Nick Motley and his fiancée, Shawn Dunn, of Milwaukee.

Ruth Meek and her husband, Bob, of Coon Rapids, Minn., and their sons, Jeff Meek of Coon Rapids, Minn., and Greg Meek and his wife, Debbie and their daughters, Samantha and Amanda, of Ramsey, Minn.

Sharon Simpson and her husband, Darwin, of Chesterfield, Mo., and their daughters, Kristen Wald and her husband, Kevin, of Rockford, Ill., Jody Kalma and her husband, Bill, of Elkhorn, Wis.

Two sisters, Bertilla Mullenbach, of Rochester, Minn., and Margaret Stolzenberg, of Stacyville; and one brother, Fritz Halbach and his wife, Marcella, of Stacyville.
