Iver N. Nelson, 1866-1938

Iver N. Nelson was born at Spring Prairie, Columbia County, Wisconsin, on March 13, 1866 to Nels O. and Inga Olsen Nelson. He came with his parents to Rudd Township, Floyd County, Iowa where he grew to manhood.

On May 4th, 1902 he was married to Marit (Mary) Fosholdt of the Rock Creek community and settled on a farm in Rock Grove Township, which was his home until his death. To this union two children were born, Ira and Ethel. The latter died from infantile paralysis soon after she graduated from the local high school.

Mr. Nelson received his education in the rural school of his community and also attended the Cedar Valley seminary. Mr. Nelson had apparently been a strong man, enjoying good health and very diligent in his calling. Since coming to this community he had been an active member of the Rock Creek Lutheran church, and although handicapped by poor hearing, attended services quite often, and when absent read his Bible at home.

Death came unexpectedly on May 23rd. Mr. Nelson and his son, Ira, were mending fences, the younger man working ahead. Turning to see how his father was getting along, he saw him lying on the ground and was dead when he reached him. Death was due to a stroke. His wife and son survive him, as do the following siblings: Mrs. L.B. (Katherine) Larson, Mrs. M.H. (Emilia) Maakestad, Mrs. (Bertina) Peter Naig, and Albert and Oscar Nelson, all of this community.

The funeral service was conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre from the home at 1 o’clock and from the Rock Creek Lutheran church at 2 o’clock, May 26th. Interment was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
