Inga Olsen Nelson, 1841-1923

Our departed friend and sister, Mrs. Inga Nelson, was born in Ulvig, Hardanger, Norway on July 24, 1841 to Iver and Katherine Opheim Olsen.

In the spring of 1856 she came with her parents to America and located temporarily at Lodi, Wisconsin. Later they moved to Spring Prairie, Dane County, Wisconsin, where she was confirmed in the Lutheran church. Of this church she has always been a loyal and active member.

In November 1863 she entered into the Holy state of matrimony with Nels O. Nelson, of Spring Prairie, WI. In 1866 she came with her husband to Iowa and located in Rudd Township, Floyd County, where Mr. Nelson had bought a farm. In the spring of 1907 she moved with her husband to Osage, Iowa, in which place she continued to live until about one year ago.

In her wedlock nine children were born. Of these children, the following survive: Mr. Iver Nelson, Mrs. L.B. (Katherine) Larson, Mrs. S.J. (Emma) Peterson, Mrs. M.H. (Emilia) Maakestad, and Mr. Oscar Nelson, all of the Rock Creek community; Mr. A.O. Nelson and Mrs. Peter (Bertina) Naig, both of Osage. She is also survived by one brother, L.I. Olsen, of Osage; and two sisters, Mrs. Ole (Martha) Torblaa, also of Osage, and Mrs. Carl Anderson, of Grafton, ND. Twenty-four grandchildren and five great grandchildren are also survivors.

The departed had been enjoying fairly good health until about a year ago. During this period of failing health her time has been divided between the homes of her children, where kind hands have cared for her and ministered to all her wants.

She died on December 9th at the home of her daughter, Mrs. M.H. Maakestad. The usual complications of old age were the cause of her death.

Funeral services were held in the Rock Creek Lutheran church December 12th at 2 p.m. The Rev. O.C. Myhre officiated the service.

Interment was beside her husband and children in the Rock Creek cemetery.
