Richard Blaser, age 92, of Osage, died Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the Faith Home in Osage.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 22, 2010, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Visitation Catholic Cemetery in Stacyville with military honors at the grave by Stacyville American Legion Post 569 and Osage V.F.W. Post 7920. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 5:30 p.m.

Richard was born March 27, 1918, in Mitchell County, Iowa, the son of John and Anna (Blake) Blaser. He attended Catholic School in Meyer, Iowa before being sent to the army in June of 1942. He served in the 89th division for four years during World War II in France and Germany and was discharged in 1946. After serving his term in the military, he worked construction in Waterloo. Richard married Kathleen Linkenmeyer. Kathleen passed away December 26, 1966. Richard married Viola (Steiger) Mauer on March 23, 1980. He farmed near Stacyville until retiring and moving to Osage. Richard was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, and the VFW. He enjoyed family, many friends, his beautiful home, working in their garden, good food, dancing, and traveling.

Richard is survived by his wife, Viola Blaser of Osage; a stepdaughter, Marilyn (Dick) Miller of Mason City; a stepson, Gary (Janice) Mauer of Oskaloosa; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 11 great-great-grandchildren; his brothers, Kenneth (Lucille) Blaser of Osage, Gervis (Lucina) Blaser of Osage; his sisters, Armila Kramer of Osage, Kathleen Wiste of Adams, Minnesota; a brother-in-law, Ben Smith of Stacyville; and his most cherished nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Kathleen Blaser; two brothers, Roger Blaser and Norbert Blaser; three sisters, Irene Jax, Mildred Blaser, and Rita Smith; two nephews, Allen Blaser and Gary Blaser; and a great-nephew, Michael Blaser.
