James Gilbertson died at his home near St. Ansgar, Iowa, Tuesday, December 29, 1896, in the 85th year of his age. Deceased was born in Norway in 1812, and in 1839 emigrated to America, settling in Rock county, Wisconsin. The same year that he arrived in America he was united in marriage to Miss Bergit Neilsdatter. In 1861-thirty-five years ago-they moved to Mitchell county, Iowa, settling near St. Ansgar, where he resided until his death.

Mr. Gilbertson was always a kind and affectionate husband and father and was patient and uncomplaining in the hour of sickness. He lived the life a devout christian being a firm believer in the Lutheran faith. There remains to mourn his loss, his aged wife and two children, a son, Mr. G.J. Gilbertson who lives on the old homestead near St. Ansgar, and one daughter, Mrs. T.M. Tollefson, who resides near St. Ansgar. The funeral was held at the Norwegian Lutheran church at St. Ansgar, Thursday, December 31, Rev. J. Olson officiating. His remains were laid to their last resting place in the St. Ansgar Norwegian Lutheran Cemetery.
