Mrs. Bucknam Rites Held at Little Cedar
LITTLE CEDAR, IOWA - Funeral services for Mrs. Ray Bucknam, 73, a long time resident of this vicinity, were held at the Methodist Church Wednesday afternoon.
Inez Mae Smith was born at the family home, 2½ miles east of town, the only daughter of Luva and John Smith, on October 14, 1881. Here she grew to womanhood, moving to Little Cedar, with her parents and attending the Little Cedar schools.
She was married on November 10, 1904, to Ray Bucknam, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Bucknam, also of Little Cedar. They farmed in the community several years, then moved to town where Bucknam served as station agent. In 1913 Mr. Bucknam took up work as a salesman and they moved to Albert Lea, Minnesota, thence to Freeborn, Minnesota, Emmetsburg Iowa, and Luverne, Minnesota. In August, 1935, they moved to Osage where Mr. Bucknam died in August, 1937.
Mrs. Bucknam and family returned to Luverne, Minnesota, to make their home, and then returning to Little Cedar in 1941. The past 2½ years she has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Dean Coonradt, of Osage. She suffered a heart attack and died at Osage on February 7, 1950.
Mrs. Bucknam is survived by seven children: Mrs. Marty Jensen (Eunice) of Luverne, Minnesota;
Vern of Hills, Minnesota; Mrs. Arthur Helling, of Maywood, Illinois, Vincent of Crestline, Ohio; Mrs. Virgil Schuchart (Viola) and Mrs. Raymond Conrad (Lorna), both of Little Cedar, and Mrs. Dean Coonradt (Mildred) of Osage; also one brother, Roy Smith, of Little Cedar, 11 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.Burial was in the Little Cedar Cemetery, the Rev. Richard Pearson officiating.
