OBITUARY: William Henry Marr 1875-1958

Services Wednesday for William Marr, 83

Funeral services were held yesterday (Wednesday) morning for William H. Marr, 83, a well known resident of the county for many years, who died early Monday from complications following an appendectomy. Mr. Marr had been confined to Mitchell County Memorial hospital in Osage for 10 days prior to his death.

The Rev. John J. Breitbach, pastor of St. Peter's Catholic church in New Haven, was in charge of services there. Burial was at St. Peter's cemetery, New Haven. C.R. Champion and Sons were in charge of the services.

William Henry Marr was born near Riceville Oct. 1, 1875, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Marr. He received his education in the rural schools near his home.

His marriage to Anna Cashman took place at Cecilia, Oct. 16, 1902 [should be 1901]. They farmed near Riceville for about three years, then moved to Sumner where Mr. Marr owned and operated a butcher shop. Moving back to Mitchell county, they bought the George Cummings farm on which the family lived until Mrs. Marr's death in 1949.

Mr. Marr was a lifelong member of the Catholic church.

Survivng are his children, Urban of Osage; Vincent and Francis of Sheboygan, Wisc.; Mrs. James Dunlay of Waterloo; Mrs. Lloyd Fox of St. Ansgar; Mrs. Vincent Miller and Mrs. Paul Meirick of New Haven. Twenty-two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren also survive.

William Marr was the last remaining member of the family of 10 children born to his parents. His wife Anna, one son and his parents also preceded him in death.
