Leah Catherine (Stough) DeLaney, 1840-1918

Was born in West Newton, Pa., Sept. 4, 1840, and died at her home in St. Ansgar, on February 5, 1918.

In early childhood the family removed to Ohio; there she was married to Charles W. DeLaney, who survives her.

The union was blessed with eight children, five of whom survive: Emma W. DeLaney, Mrs. W.J. Crandall, Mrs. R.C. Lubiens, J.D, and M.O. DeLaney. Sarah Elizabeth died in infancy and Charles and Frank in young manhood. In addition to the husband and children above mentioned, there are two surviving sisters, Mrs. Anna Cozer and Mrs. Barbara Crise, of Greensburg, Pennsylvania.

Mrs. Cozer is 93 years old and her sister 80. Our sympathies and prayers go out to these aged sisters who could not be present at the services.

The family moved from their Ohio home thirty-eight years ago, settling in Mitchell county, Iowa, which has since been the home of Mr. and Mrs. DeLaney.

The funeral services were held from her late home Friday afternoon, February 8, conducted by Rev. William Galbreth, pastor of the Methodist church. A ladies quartet from the church sang three of the old favorite hymns. The body was laid to rest in the St. Ansgar cemetery.

In early childhood Mrs. DeLaney united with the Evangelical Lutheran church, where her membership remained til death. A devoted wife, a loving mother, an affectionate sister, a kind neighbor and friend has passed from our midst to her new home beyond.
