Berit (Ronning) Jensen, 1849-1936
Mrs. Berit Jenson was born at Aethedalen, Norway on February 23, 1849 to Ole and Inger Thorstensen Ronning. She was the third child in a family of five children. Mrs. Jensen came to America in her youth and located at Forest City, Iowa. During the first years of her life in this country she worked as a domestic in different homes in Winnebago County.
On September 21, 1908 she was united in marriage with Ole Jensen of the Rock Creek community. They located on the Jensen farm in Rock Grove Township, Floyd County, Iowa. Mr. Jensen died March 24, 1909 and Mrs. Jensen continued to live on the farm until 1924.
Mrs. Jensen was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church of Norway and while residing in this community was affiliated with the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. She had always had a deep interest in the church and in the Ladies' Aid. Having no way of attending services and Aid meetings, as she lived alone, she would walk long distances in order to be present.
Becoming physically and mentally weak, it became necessary to send her to the hospital at Independence, where she was confined to her bed for the last ten years. She passed away on May 2, 1936. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. O.C. Myhre at the Rock Creek Lutheran Church on May 5 at 2 pm. Interment was in the Rock Creek cemetery.
