OBITUARY: Harley Erastua Jacobsen, Mitchell County, Iowa

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Osage, for Harley E. Jacobsen, age 85, of Osage. Rev. Dennis Hanson and Rev. Roy Ott officiated. Interment was later in the afternoon at Oak Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs with military rites conducted by HDS American Legion Post 449 from Nora Springs. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage was in charge of arrangements. Harley died Tuesday, November 20, 2001 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.

Harley Erastua Jacobsen was born July 21, 1916 at Nora Springs the son of Nels and Lucy (Harden) Jacobsen. He was united in marriage to Rosie Paulsen on Nov. 17, 1941 and they just celebrated their 60th wedding aniversary. From April 1942 to January 1946, Harley served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

His tour included the Pacific Theater, where he was Crew Chief. After his discharge, Harley and Rosie farmed for two years at Rockford then they bought a farm northwest of Nora Springs, where they farmed from 1948 to 1984. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling and playing cards.

Preceding him in death were his parents; a sister Karen Vikturek; a brother Harold "Bud" Jacobsen; and a grandchild Chris Field.

Those that survive him include his wife, Rosie Jacobsen of Osage; three children, Raymond Jacobsen and wife Jolene of Nora Springs, Lorraine Richardson and her husband Jim of Ranburne, AL and Harley Brent Jacobsen of Nora Springs; seven grandchildren, Jody Dow, John Jacobsen, Chet Field, Cheri Cole, Heather Marker, Jessica Featherston and Jordan Jacobsen; and 13 great-grandchildren.

OSAGE - Harley E. Jacobsen, 85, of Osage died Tuesday (Nov. 20, 2001) at Mitchell County Regional Health Center Hospice Unit in Osage.

Harley Erastus Jacobsen was born July 21, 1916, at Nora Springs, the son of Nels and Lucy (Harden) Jacobsen.

He was united in marriage to Rosie Paulsen on Nov. 17, 1941, and they just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

His funeral will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, 833 Ash St., Osage, with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. on Saturday at the Rock Grove Cemetery, rural Nora Springs, with military rites conducted by the HDS American Legion Post 449 of Nora Springs.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage and will continue one hour before services on Saturday at the church.

He is survived by his wife, Rosie Jacobsen, of Osage; to this union were born three children, Raymond Jacobsen and his wife, Jolene, of Nora Springs, Lorraine Richardson and her husband, Jim, of Ranburne, Ala., and Harley Brent Jacobsen, of Nora Springs; seven grandchildren, Jody Dow, John Jacobsen, Chet Field, Cheri Cole, Heather Marker, Jessica Featherston and Jordan Jacobsen; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Karen Vikturek; a brother, Harold "Bud" Jacobsen; and a grandchild, Chris Field.
