Rose Marion Fries, 88, died Saturday, November 24, 2001 at Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage. Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Entombment will take place on Wednesday at the Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence, Mo.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church Schroeder and Sites Funeral Home, St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Rose Marion Fries was born June 17, 1913, in Newburg Township, Mitchell County, the daughter of Ole E. and Amelia Moe Thorson. She was baptized and confirmed in the First Lutheran Church, St. Ansgar.

She graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1931. Rose also graduated from Waldorf College in Forest City and from Hamilton Business College in Mason City. In 1939 she started working for the U.S. Weather Service in Iowa City, and in 1941 she was transferred to the Weather Service in Kansas City, Mo., and worked there until her retirement in 1972.

On January 22, 1949, Rose married William Fries of Kansas City. They made their home in Kansas City until William's health failed and they moved to St. Ansgar to be near her family. William passed away August 4, 1989.

Rose continued to live in St. Ansgar and made her home at the Worth Living Center until she entered the Good Samaritan Center on February 28, 1997.

Rose enjoyed reading and visiting with her many friends at the Good Samaritan Center. For many years, Rose has had a hobby of tracing family history and has passed on much information to the remaining family members.

Rose was the last surviving member of the family of nine brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William, brothers, Roy, Clifford, Leon, Donald, Hubert, and Annis; sisters, Alma Sanders and Mildred Tesch; one niece; and two nephews.

She is survived by a sister-in-law, Rose Thorson of St. Ansgar; 16 nieces and nephews; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and a host of friends.
