ERICKSON

Last Saturday morning the news reached town that Carl Erickson had passed away during the night. People were surprised as many did not know that he had been getting worse. But for the last three weeks he had been gradually failing. The story of his injury is familiar to all; how the loaded wagon came down upon him breaking his back on August 6, 1895, a little over a year ago, and how he lingered along with his lower limbs and the lower part of his body paralyzed. After a time he seemed to improve, aside from his not being able to move himself around he was getting along pretty well. This summer, not many weeks ago his many friends purchased an invalid's wheel chair and presented it to him. With this he was able to wheel himself around and he seemed to enjoy it greatly. But about three weeks before his death he began to fail; his stomach became affected and he could not eat, gradually he grew weak and worse and his arms became partly paralyzed and at 1:30 Saturday morning he passed away. Carl would have been thirty years of age in November having been born on the farm where he died August 18, 1896. There he grew to manhood and always made his home. He received a good education attending the Seminary here. About ten years ago his father died, since which time he managed the farm. The funeral was held at the Norwegian Lutheran Church on Monday at 11 a.m., Rev. J. Olsen officiating. It was very largely attended by those who knew him in life and wished to pay their last sad respects.
