Funeral services for Miss Dorothy Hume, 77, who died at the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center December 11, were held December 15 at the St. Ansgar United Methodist Church with the Rev. Bruce Wittern officiating.
Dorothy Hume was born in St. Ansgar February 7, 1902, the daughter of Thomas H. and Mamie (Brown) Hume. She made her home in St. Ansgar until 1951 when she moved to Minneapolis. There she resided until 1971 when she returned to St. Ansgar to become a resident of the Good Samaritan Center.
Miss Hume was graduated from St. Ansgar high school, and furthered her education at Carleton College, Northfield, Minnesota, until illness forced her to discontinue her studies. For several years she was employed at the St. Ansgar Post Office, and later had long term care of children in Minneapolis, some of whom still corresponded with her regularly.
She was a lifelong, active member of the United Methodist church, American Legion Auxilliary and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Miss Hume was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Margaret Hegland, a brother, T. Hall Hume, and nephews, Robert and Burell Hegland. She is survived by nieces and nephews, Su and Janis Blumentals, Jean Harris and Thomas and Patricia Hegland, all of Minneapolis; William and Dorothy Hegland and Rose Hegland of St. Ansgar; and Thomas Hume of Austin, Minnesota; also 14 great nieces and great nephews; two great-great-nieces and many friends.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with Rev. Wittern in charge of committal services.
