RICEVILLE, IOWA - Edith B. Rieken, 102, of Riceville, died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 5, 2010, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, with Pastor Michael Parris, officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Riceville. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Lindstrom Funeral Home, and one hour prior to services at the church.

Arrangements are with the Lindstrom Funeral Home, 641-985-2242.

Obituary:
Edith B. Rieken, age 102, of Riceville, Iowa died Sunday, January 31, 2010, at the Riceville Family Care & Therapy Center in Riceville, Iowa.

Edith Bertha Arndt, the daughter of Adolf and Mary (Hahn) Arndt, was born July 31, 1907, at Afton Township Howard County. She was baptized September 1, 1907 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church rural Riceville, and confirmed on April 9, 1922 at St. Peter's Lutheran church.

Edith was united in marriage to George James Rieken on August 11, 1927 at the Little Brown church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, a son, James, was born.

George and Edith farmed south of Riceville, upon George's death in 1970, Edith continued to live on the farm until she moved to Riceville in 1985.

Edith enjoyed fishing, playing cards, gardening, crocheting, embroidering, cooking, music, and spending as much time as possible with her four grandchildren. She will always be remembered for her cookies and everyone was welcomed at her table. She will truly never be forgotten for her laughter and spirit of living life.

At age 91 years she entered the Riceville Community Rest Home on February 9, 1998 where she enjoyed folding clothes.

Edith is survived by her son: Jim and wife Katie of Riceville; grandchildren: Brenda (Greg) Magsamen, Singapore; Beverly (Wayne) Schiltz, Dodgeville, Wisconsin; Barbara (John) Schmidt, Nora Springs; and Bryan (Susan) Rieken, Manchester; 14 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild; a sister, Minnie (Howard) Penney of Osage and other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George, Nov. 1970; her parents; sisters, Gertie Rieken, Heidi Fouts, Martha Timmerman; and brother, Arthur, Walter, Albert and Edward Arndt.

Visitation:
Friends may call at the Lindstrom Funeral Home on Thursday during the hours of 5 - 7 P.M. and one hour prior to services at the church.

Service:
Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2010 at 10:30 A.M. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Riceville, IA with Pastor Michael Parris officiating.

Cemetery:
Burial will be at Riverside Cemetery in Riceville, Iowa
