Funeral services for Elling Ellingson, 84, pioneer Worth county farmer, were held Tuesday, July 17 at 2 p.m. at the Deer Creek Lutheran church with the Rev. O.A. Langehough officiating.

Mr. Ellingson died Saturday evening at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Lloyd Johnston, at Austin following a long illness.

Elling Ellingson, eldest child of Bjorn and Barbro O. Hanson Ellingson was born in Newburg Township on November 22, 1866 and was baptized by Rev. C.L. Clausen. He attended the district school number 1 in Barton township for eight years.

On November 6, 1881 he was confirmed by Rev. Johan Olson in the Deer Creek Lutheran church, the family having previously moved to Worth county in 1870. On June 27, 1893 he was united in marriage to Serena Knudtson and that same year built a home on section 15, Barton township, in Worth county. The Ellingsons celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary on June 27 of this year.

Mr. Ellingson farmed all his life with a special hobby of raising hogs and took an active interest in politics. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and served his community as an assessor, township clerk, trustee, road supervisor and constable. He had been in poor health for the past two and a half years and was cared for by his daughter in Austin.

He is survived by his wife, Serena and two children, Benny, on the home farm and Emily (Mrs. L.J. Johnston) of Austin, one grandchild, one brother Ole, of Austin and one sister, Julie Severson of Carpenter.

Burial was in the First Lutheran cemetery at St. Ansgar with Rev. Langehough in charge of committal services.
