Even Ludwik (Olson) Bakkum was born of the parents, Ole and Petra Bakkum, August 1, 1884, in Snertingdalen, Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in Aalseth's Lutheran church, Norway. He immigrated to America in 1902 with his sister, Ingeborg Anderson and came to the home of his brother-in-law, Christian Peterson, on the Rev. Olson farm at St. Ansgar. For two years he worked on a farm near Lyle. In the spring of 1905 he was taken ill, and as a result left an invalid for life. The first three year of his crippled life he spent with his sister, Mrs. Chris Peterson at Lyle. After that he stayed for a time with another sister, Mrs. Ingeborg Anderson, also at Lyle.
Friends and relatives pay the deceased the tribute that he displayed Christian fortitude throughout his long affliction and was ever patient and cheerful. He leaves to mourn his death two brothers and two sisters; Gilbert Bakkum of Mitchell, Olaf Bakkum of Norway, Mrs. Chris Peterson and Mrs. Anton Anderson of Adams, Minn. His parents, two brothers and one sister have preceded him in death.
