Marilyn Clark Barnum

Marilyn Clark Barnum, 77, died Nov. 26, 2009, at her home in Cushing, Maine from kidney cancer.

Marilyn was born and raised in Orchard, Iowa. She attended college at the University of Iowa, receiving her bachelor's degree in occupational therapy. She began her career as an occupational therapist at Massachusetts Mental Health Center, where she met and subsequently married Dr. William Joseph Barnum Jr. in 1965.

Marilyn and her husband, Bill, moved to Maine in 1973, raising their family while she continued working as an occupational therapist at Midcoast Mental Health Center until her retirement.

She was always an avid gardener due to her Iowa roots as a farmer, and she enjoyed learning about Native American/South-west culture. Her passions included tennis, cross country skiing, hiking, boating and reading.

She was actively involved in local politics as chairman of the Ordinance Committee in Cushing.

She is survived by her daughter, Emily Clark Barnum and her spouse, Joanne; her stepsons, Myles and Garrett, all of Littleton, Mass.; her son, Jed Barnum of Cambridge, Mass.; and one brother, Allen J. Clark of Minnesota.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Dec. 3 at 1 p.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church on White Street in Rockland. The Rev. Glenn Mahaffey officiated.

Local Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, December 14, 2009, at the First Congregational Church, U.C.C. in Orchard, with Pastor Jan Tjaden officiating. Burial will be in the Orchard Cemetery. Following services the family will greet friends at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Georges River Land Trust, 8 North Main St., Suite 200, Rockland, ME 04841; or American Occupa-tional Therapy Association Inc., P.O. Box 31220, Bethesda, MD 20824.
