OSAGE, IOWA - Donald Lee Popp, age 71, of Osage, passed away unexpectedly at his home Saturday, October 24, 2009.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, 2009, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage where there will be a scripture service at 8 p.m.
Don was born Jan. 18, 1938, in Mitchell County, the son of John and Frances (Falk) Popp. He attended Rock No. 1 Country School and graduated from Osage High School. He served in the Army National Guard.
On June 18, 1960, Don was united in marriage to Mary Ann Halfman. From that union came four children. Mary Ann passed away in 1992. Don worked construction and in the late 1960s started Popp Excavating.
On August 14, 1993, Don was united in marriage to Jo (Hofmeister) Hackenmiller. Don enjoyed fishing, snowmobiling and pontooning, but his greatest passion was working.
Don is survived by his wife, Jo Popp, of Osage; a son, Kevin (Carol) Popp of Osage and their children, Travis and Hannah; a son, Keith (Audrey) Popp of Osage and their son, Brian; a son, Kurt (Janet) Popp of Osage and their children, Kyle, Jordan and Hailey; a daughter, Kari Fox of Osage and her children, Seth, Lee and Mary Ann; a son, Bob (Connie) Hackenmiller of Ventura and their children, Drew, Mandy, Stacy and Ryan; a son, Tom Hackenmiller of Stacyville; a son, Kevin Hackenmiller of Cedar Rapids; a son, Keith Hackenmiller of Eagan, Minn.; a daughter, Julie (George) Rogerson of Burlington and,their daughter, Hattie; a daughter, Vicki (Scott) Brandau of Osage and their children, Sidney, Samie and Sawyer; a daughter, Kelly (Ryan) Molsberry of Hubert, N.C.; a brother, Melvin (Dorothy) Popp of Osage; and his mother-in-law, Pauline Hofmeister of Osage.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann, and his parents.
