ROBERTSON, HANSON, JOHNSON, DAUB, SWENSON, WAMBEAM

Nels Peter Robertson, son of Nels and Rasmina Robertson, was born June 23, 1873 at Lindelse, Langeland, Denmark. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Lindelse church May 17, 1887 by Rev. Bertelsen.

At the age of 13 he came to the United States with his parents and they settled in Worth county near Bolan, Iowa. He attended Worth county schools and worked at farming during his youth.

On September 1, 1897, he was married to Helena Hanson, Deer Creek township in Worth county where they farmed for several years before moving to Mitchell county near Toeterville. He farmed here until his retirement to Lyle in 1945.

In 1947, he and his wife observed their golden wedding anniversary. Mrs. Robertson died in 1955.

The past 10 years he had made his home with his son, Martin, and his daughter, Mrs. Emil Johnson. In June of 1968, he entered the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar. He died Sunday, January 12 [1969] at noon at the age of 95 years.

Mr. Robertson was very active in community and public affairs and served on various committees. He was an ardent scholar, education himself with reading and seeking new knowledge.

He was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran church, Lyle, serving on the Mona Lutheran church board for six years; Pleasant Prairie school board for 17 years; served on the Mitchell County Soil Conservation; president of Lyle Creamery 15 years and vice chairman of the 4th District Land o Lakes Creameries in Minneapolis; and Justice of the Peace in Lyle 7 years. He was a Knights Templer and a member of Masonic Fidelity Lodge No. 39, Austin, receiving his 50 year membership pin in 1963.

He is survived by two sons, Martin, Toeterville, and Oscar of Minneapolis; three daughters, Mrs. Alvin (Florence) Swenson, of Enderlin, North Dakota; Mrs. Roy (Esther) Daub, Dazey, North Dakota and Mrs. Emil (Lillian) Johnson, Otranto; 17 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Hannah Wambeam, Albert Lea.

He was receded in death by his wife, a son, Clifford and four grandchildren, four sisters and four brothers.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 16 at Our Savior's Lutheran church, Lyle, with the Rev. M. Johnson officiating. Interment was in First Lutheran cemetery, St. Ansgar. Masonic rites were conducted on Friday at 11 a.m. at Schroeder and Houg Funeral Home, by William Petersen, Austin.

Relatives attended from Wells, Austin, Minneapolis, Minnesota and Rockford, Mason City, Northwood, and Kensett, Iowa.
