Held Here Saturday, May 12

Funeral services for Alvin W. Schultz, 80 of St. Ansgar, who died May 8, (1984) at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, were held May 12 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church here with the Reverend Norman E. Betke officiating.

Alwin Wilhelm Leonard Schultz was born August 27, 1903 on the family farm in Rock Township, Mitchell County, the son of Henry and Emile (Steinberg) Schultz. He was baptized two days later at the home of his parents by the Reverend Becker. He was confirmed April 1, 1917 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Rock Township by the Reverend Reinecke.

When Mr. Schultz was four years of age the family moved south of St. Ansgar and in 1923 moved to a farm on Highway 105 at the northwest corner of St. Ansgar. They then lived on a farm north of Toeterville for a few years, and then moved back to St. Ansgar to the farm on the blacktop south of St. Ansgar where he made his home until his death. When the family moved back to St. Ansgar, Mr. Schultz became a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church. Mr. Schultz liked to farm, garden, and enjoyed grafting trees and keeping bees.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and infant brother, Edwin; a sister. Mrs. Evertt (Alma) Steward.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Esther Ehlke and Mrs. Alice Ehlke, St. Ansgar; a brother-in-law, John Ehlke of St. Ansgar; three nephews, LeRoy Steward of Stacyville, Eugene Steward of Hayfield, Minnesota, Merle Steward of Rochester, Minnesota; four nieces, Mrs. Davie (Doris) Guy of Ames; Mrs. Kenneth (Marlene) Duncomb of Holt, Missouri, Mrs. Neil (Betty) Scranton of Cedar Rapids; Miss Sheryl Ehlke of St. Ansgar; one aunt, Mrs. Selma Steinberg of St. Ansgar.

Burial was in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery with Reverend Betke in charge of committal services.

Funeral services for Alwin Schultz were held on Saturday, May 12, 1984, with burial in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, St. Ansgar, Iowa. Rev. Norman Betke officiated. Mr. Schultz died in Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, Osage, on May 8, 1984, following a short illness.

Alvin Wilhelm Leonard Schultz was the son of Henry and Emile Steinberg Schultz, born August 27, 1903, at the family farm in Rock Township, and was confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, Rock Creek.

The family moved near St. Ansgar in 1923 and farmed there and near Toeterville until moving to the farm south of St. Ansgar where Alwin lived until his death. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Esther Ehlke and Mrs. Alice Ehlke, both of St. Ansgar; one brother-in-law, John Ehlke of St. Ansgar, and three nephews and four nieces.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one infant brother and a sister, Alma (Mrs. Everett Steward).
