Elmer Bruesewitz [1919-1980]
Funeral services for Elmer W. Bruesewitz, 60, of St. Ansgar, who died at the Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minn. Saturday, April 12, were held Wednesday, April 16 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Norman Betke officiating.
Elmer (Bree) William Bruesewitz was born May 2, 1919 in Ottertail County, Minn., the son of William and Ella (Heckstein) Bruesewitz. He was baptized into the Lutheran faith at the home of his parents June 8, 1919 by the Rev. William Elfert. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Grafton. He was confirmed at the Emmanuel Lutheran church in Grafton by the Rev. Carl Landdeck May 14, 1935.
He married Iva Cowell at the Methodist church in St. Ansgar August 31, 1941 with the Rev. Belling officiating. Three sons and one daughter were born to them.
For many years Mr. Bruesewitz operated the Sinclair Service Station, the Co-op Service station and the Ford Auto and Implement dealership here. He owned and operated Bree's Motor Service here from 1954 to 1970 at which time he retired do to illness.
He was a member and served as a past president of the St. Ansgar Chamber of Commerce, and had been a member of the local Sportsmen's Club.
Mr. Bruesewitz is survived by his wife, Iva; three sons, Robert of Rochester, Minn., Bill of Lindenhurst, Ill. and Lyle of Newport, R.I.; daughter, Jean Kindschuh of Mason City; his mother, Ella; also eight grandchildren, Michael, Monte and Mark of Rochester, Minn.; Scott and Shelli of Lindenhurst, Ill.; Dabiel [sic ?] and Andrea of Newport, R.I.; Tracy of Mason City; sister, Mrs. August (Melba) Banker of Osage; two brothers, Earl of Osage and Donald of Cheyenne, Wyo. He was preceded in death by his father, William.
Burial was in the St. Ansgar cemetery with the Rev. Betke in charge of the committal services.
