THOMAS H. HUME OF ST. ANSGAR
IS DEAD AT AGE 75Former Legislator and Mayor
ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Thomas H. Hume, 75, lifelong resident of St Ansgar and former mayor and state legislator, died Saturday at his home here after several days illness following a stroke.
He was born November 22, 1868, in St Ansgar, the son of Thomas H. and Margaret Hume. He married Mamie Brown on September 19, 1894, and the couple celebrated their 50th anniversary last month.
Mr. Hume had been a farmer and stockbuyer, and in 1915 joined the staff of the St Ansgar National bank, becoming its cashier. He was on the St. Ansgar town council for several years and served two terms as mayor.
He also had been a member of the Mitchell county board of supervisors and of the local school board, and served as representative in the 30th, 31st and 32nd general assemblies and the extra session of the 32nd. He was a 32nd degree Mason.
Surviving besides his widow are three children: Mrs. B.T. Hegland, Minneapolis, Minn.; Thomas, address unknown, and Dorothy, at home; six grandchildren and one brother, James, St. Ansgar.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the home; Rev. Milton Nothdurft pastor of the
Methodist church officiating. The body is at the Schroeder and Houg Funeral Home.[Waterloo Daily Courier - Sunday, October 15, 1944]
