Oliver A. Fossey Funeral Held At First Lutheran

Funeral services for Oliver A. Fossey, 62, of St. Ansgar, who died December 17, 1979 at the Mitchell County Memorial Hospital, were held December 21 at the First Lutheran Church here with the Reverend Stephen Engelstad officiating.

Oliver Allen Fossey was born December 21, 1916 in Rhame, North Dakota, the son of Otto and Anna [Marie Hansen] Fossey. He was baptized February 18, 1917 at St. Paul’s Church in Rhame, and was confirmed in 1930 at Mona Lutheran Church by the Reverend Olaf A. Langehough. In 1917 the family moved to osage. Mr. Fossey attended Pleasant Prairie grade school for eight years, and graduated from St. Ansgar High School in 1934.

February 19, 1938 he married Shirley Kleinwort. Eight children were born to them. Mr. Fossey was employed as a plumber for a number of years, and a custodian in the St. Ansgar schools. As a school custodian, he was known and loved by students and staff alike for his friendly manner and humorous stories. He was an avid supporter of St. Ansgar athletics and enjoyed fishing during his hours of recreation.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two sisters, Olive and Irene, a brother, Kenneth and an infant son.

Surviving are his wife, Shirley; his eight children, Mrs. Robert (Sharon) Justice of Austin, Minnesota, Kenneth of Minneapolis; Keith of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Mrs. Clinton (Karen) Hakes of Batavia, Illinois; Dennis of St. Ansgar; Richard of Ankeny; Mrs. Mike (Kathy) Gainey of Dallas, Texas and Mike of Osage; also his stepmother, Mrs. Esther Fossey of St. Ansgar; two sisters, Mrs. Vernon Smesrud of St. Ansgar and Mrs. Edith Griffith of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; daughters-in-law, sons-in-law and 18 grandchildren.

Burial was in the First Lutheran Cemetery with Reverend Stephen Engelstad in charge of the committal services.
