Cornelius Edward Shoger

Cornelius Shoger, known here as "Colonel" Shoger, died at his home Sunday morning after several years of illness. For a long time he had been confined to a wheel chair, but in spite of pain and illness, kept about until a short time ago.

Cornelius Edward Shoger, son of Hans Frederick and Ellen R. Knutson Shoger, was born in Rock Township, Mitchell County, Iowa on February 17, 1875. The days of his youth were spent in the parental home and he received his education in the rural schools of his community and also at the Nora Springs seminary.

On March 10, 1901, he married Nettie Johnson of this community. Shortly after their marriage they located on their farm in Cedar Township, where they continued to live thirty-two years.

In 1933 he moved to Osage, where he made his home until his death. In his wedlock four children were born: James, of Nora Springs; Fred and Clifford, of this community; and Mrs. Alvin (Effie) McKee, of Riceville.

Besides his wife and children, his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Ole Dahley, of Nora Springs; two sisters: Mrs. Syver (Ella) Klemesrud and Mrs. Adella Norby; and two brothers: Elmer C. Dahley, of this community, and Ira Dahley, of Minneapolis, MN survive him.

Mr. Shoger was baptized and confirmed in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. This church he loved and attended regularly as long as his health permitted. For many years he served as treasurer of the church.

For the last thirty years, Mr. Shoger has been in poor health suffering from rheumatism. The last seven years he was an invalid and for the past six weeks was confined to his bed. He died on September 11, 1938. The funeral services were held Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at Champion Funeral
Home and at 1:00 in the Rock Creek Lutheran Church. His pastor, the Rev. O.C. Myhre, conducted the services, and burial was in the Meroa cemetery.
