OSAGE, IOWA -- William Mathew Young, age 80, passed away Friday, April 25, 1969, at his home at Little Cedar. Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 28th, at United Methodist Church, and burial will be in the Osage City Cemetery. William died of a heart attack.
William was born on August 10, 1888, to William Henry and Katherine Anna Young. On November 23, 1915 he married Luella Knechtges and they had four children. They farmed in North Dakota until they decided to rent the farm out and return to Osage in 1921 where they farmed, and William was the ASC agent in Osage. They enjoyed travelling -- visiting every state except Alaska and Hawaii. In their later years they wintered in Texas.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Glenn (Marian) Kuenkel, Little Cedar, and Mrs. Orven (Maurine) Stromley, St. Ansgar; by one sister, Mrs. Ada (Glen) Kearney of Portland, Oregon; by one brother, Marvin (Margaret) of South Sioux City, Nebraska; by four grandchildren; and by four great-grandchildren.
William was preceded in death by his wife in 1961, by his parents, by a brother, Arthur; by one sister, Mrs. Clarence (Amy) Best; and by two sons, Merlin and Wendell.

Funeral services for a well-known Osage man, William Mathew Young, 80 were held here Monday. Mr. Young died of a heart attack at his farm home Friday. He was known to have a heart condition.
The Reverend Robert L. Smith, was in charge of the services at the United Methodist Church, and arrangements were by C. R. Champion and Sons. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.
William M. Young was born August 10, 1888, on a farm in Mitchell County, near Little Cedar, the son of William H. and Katherine Scheffel Young. After attending the rural schools he was graduated from the Cedar Valley Seminary and received his business training in New Hampton. He became an employee of the Smith Lumber Company and later homesteaded near Driscoll, North Dakota.
Luella Knechtges and William Young were united in marriage November 23, 1915. When his father’s health failed he returned to the family farm to assist in farming. He later became owner of the farm.
Mr. Young was active in community affairs, was manager of the Agricultural Stabilization and Conversation Service Office in Osage and also headed the Federal Crop Insurance program in Mitchell County, retiring in 1965. He was active in the Masonic Lodge and Shrine, and was Rotarian. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Osage.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Luella in 1961; his parents, two sons, Merlin and Wendell, one brother Arthur, and a sister, Mrs. Clarence (Amy) Best.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Orven (Maurine) Stromley, St. Ansgar; Mrs. Glenn (Marian) Kuenkel, on the family farm; four grandchildren; James (Diane) Stromley, West Virginia, Sandra (Russell) Bell, Hudson, Iowa, Cheryl (Miles) Duck, Mason City, and Colleen Kuenkel, Osage; four great-grandchildren; one brother, Marvin Young of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and one sister, Mrs. Glenn (Ada) Kearney of Portland, Oregon.
