BORN AND GREW UP IN MITCHELL COUNTY IOWA
FLOYD, IOWA - Clarus "Corky" Kuykendall, 78, of Floyd died Tuesday (June 9, 2009) at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services for Corky Kuykendall will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Hauser Funeral Home, 1205 S. Main in Charles City. Pastor Robert Holdorf of Grace United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will be in Sunnyside Memory Gardens, rural Charles City. Friends may visit from 5 to 8 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Hauser Funeral Home. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service on Friday.
Clarus Eugene Kuykendall was born January 12, 1931, in Mitchell County, the son of Henry and Mildred (Muth) Kuykendall. He received his education in Mitchell County. Corky proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and received numerous medals for his service.
On June 12, 1954, he was united in marriage to Norma Joyal at Osage. Corky was a farmer, construction worker and custodian for several years in the Charles City school system. He was a former member of the V.F.W.
His interests included flower and vegetable gardening, bird watching and going to the Mississippi. Corky will also be remembered for his love of dogs.
Living family members include his wife of 54 years, Norma Kuykendall of Floyd; six children, Ramona (Dennis) Onken of Charles City, Eugene Kuykendall of Des Moines, Mark (Sandy) Kuykendall of Floyd, Mike (Lori) Kuykendall of Floyd, Jim (Danette) Kuykendall of Charles City and Troy (Stephanie) Kuykendall of Charles City; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren with two soon to arrive; a sister, Delores (Dennis) Peterson, of Mason City; a half-brother, Alvin (Phyllis) Kuykendall of Georgetown, Ill.; and a step-brother, Carroll (Mary) Stonebraker of Hemet, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Dean Stonebraker; a sister, Doris Jean Kuykendall; a half-brother, Clyde Kuykendall; two half-sisters, Darlene Long and Leona Cummings; and his stepmother, Viola Kuykendall.
