Gertrude Mauer

STACYVILLE, IOWA — Gertrude Mauer, 94, of Stacyville, died Monday (Aug. 8, 2005) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home.

Gertrude was born Aug. 7, 1911, in Cohasset, Minn., the daughter of William and Sophia (Miller) Wolf. She moved to Osage, Iowa, when she was a child.

Gertrude married Raymond Mauer on Feb. 4, 1937, at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville. She taught in rural school for a year before her marriage to Raymond. They lived and farmed outside of Stacyville for 28 years. Gertrude moved to Stacyville in 1965. She worked at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home. Gertrude was a member of Visitation Catholic Church and Christian Mothers.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be in the Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Visitation Catholic Church, Stacyville, where there will be rosary at 4:30 p.m. and a Scripture service at 6:45 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before services Thursday at the church.

Gertrude is survived by three sons: James (Mary) Mauer of Lisle, Ill.; Don (Bonnie) Mauer of Naperville, Ill.; and Jerry (Carol) Mauer of Dunlap, Ill.; four daughters, Janice (Clem) Loecher of New Haven, Iowa; Dorothy Klimek, of Hayfield, Minn.; Carol (Paul) Tilkes of Austin, Minn.; Joyce (Rich) Hanke of Lakeville, Minn.; one daughter-in-law: Joanne Mauer of Stacyville; 23 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; four sisters: Sister Mary Wilma Wolf, of Cedar Rapids; Agnes (Rollie) Frye of Rockford, Ill.; Catherine Wolf of Loves Park, Ill.; and Monica Berg of Greenville, S. C.; and one brother: Vincent (Xoa) Wolf of Chillicothe, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her husband; one son, Robert Mauer; one grandson, Eugene Mauer; her parents; two brothers, Clement and Fidelis Wolf; one sister, Bernice Smith; an infant sister, Wilma Wolf; and one son-in-law, Will Klimek.
