ETHEL MARIE LANTZ

NASHUA, IOWA — Ethel Marie Lantz, age 83, of Osage, Iowa, and formerly of Nashua, died on Thursday afternoon, Sept. 2, 2004, at the Mitchell County Regional Medical Center in Osage.

Her funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Hugeback & Chenoweth Funeral Home in Nashua. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery in Nashua. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and 9 a.m. until time of service on Tuesday at the Funeral Home.

Ethel Marie Lantz was born on October 27, 1920 at Nashua, the daughter of Ivan B. and Pearl F. (Smith) Riggs. She graduated from Nashua High School in 1939 and attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years, earning her teacher’s certificate. Ethel taught school for the next 10 years.

She was united in marriage to Earl Lantz on May 24, 1952, in Austin, Minn. They made their home in Nashua where their two sons were born. Ethel moved to Charles City in 2001 and had recently moved to the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.

Ethel was a member of Nashua United Methodist Church and the Willing Workers Club. She loved music and taught piano lessons to a number of children. She made sure all her grandchildren had an appreciation of music. She will be happily remembered for her sense of humor. Ethel’s hobbies also included water color painting, crocheting, knitting and she always had a large vegetable and flower garden to tend to.

Ethel is survived by two sons, James D. (Linda) Lantz of Rudd and Francis B. (Carolyn) Lantz of Charles City; eight grandchildren, Lisa Sinnwell, Marc and Jared Lantz, Frank, Jason, Chad, Daniel and Paul Lantz; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Dorothy Johnson and Leona Carter both of Nashua; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Riggs of Charles City and Irma Stufflebeam of Waterloo.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl R. Lantz on Oct. 14, 1987; her parents, and one brother, William Riggs.
