ST. ANSGAR, IOWA — Norman Eugene Loe, 72, of St. Ansgar, died Saturday (May 29, 2004) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar with the Rev. Daird Korth officiating. There will be no visitation. Burial will be at a later date.

Norman Eugene Loe, son of Ernest and Emma Danielson Loe, was born Aug. 21, 1931, in Spencer. He was baptized on Sept. 13, 1931, and confirmed on April 14, 1946, at the Lincoln Lutheran Church in Royal, Iowa. His childhood years were spent in Royal, where he received his education and graduated from Royal High School in 1949.

Norman married Rachel Hadenfeldt on July 27, 1958, in Sioux Rapids, Iowa. They lived in the Royal/Milford area until moving to Ventura, Iowa, in 1974. Norman was a professional driver and worked most of his career for Ruan Transport Inc. He was very pleased to have received his 1 Million Mile Safe Driving Award from Ruan.

When Norman retired in 1990, he and Rachel moved to the St. Paul, Minn., area to be closer to Melissa and her family. The year 2002 saw a final move to St. Ansgar, Iowa, following Byron and Melissa to his new call at Immanuel Lutheran. Everywhere Norm lived, he was involved with his local congregation, serving on various boards. He also enjoyed sharing his musical talent in the choirs and as a soloist. He was always active in his community, enjoying his work with the Lions, town activities and celebrations. As an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting and fishing, he shared his knowledge by teaching classes to children throughout the years. Norm ws a member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and was proud to have attained standing as a Millennium Endowment Member.

He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, aunts, uncles and an infant nephew.

He is survived by wife, Rachel, of St. Ansgar; daughter, Alison Loe, of Arkansas and her daughters, Amy and Megan Loe; and two great-grandchildren; daughter, Melissa and her husband, the Rev. Dr. Byron Northwick of St. Ansgar and their children, Andrew and Erica Northwick; sister, Linnea, and her husband, Dick Graen, of Cedar Falls, and their children and grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
