OSAGE, IOWA - Wava Mae Thome, age 86, of Osage, died Saturday (May 5, 2001) at the Stacyville Community Nursing Home, Stacyville, Mitchell county, Iowa.

Wava was born Aug. 19, 1914, to Harvey and Alta (Lynn) Krumlinde in Dike, the first of four children. They moved to the Floyd area in 1928 and later to Mitchell County, where she completed her eighth-grade education.

Wava was united in marriage to Roman Thome on April 6, 1942, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Meyer. They had just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. They lived in the Osage area, moving into Osage in 1967. In the early years of her marriage, Wava worked as a mid-wife and helped many young mothers with their children. She was a cook at the Mitchell County Care Facility. She was a Brownie troop leader. She was a cook at the Sacred Heart Catholic School for 14 years, cooked at the Knights of Columbus Hall and catered weddings. In the summers she cooked at the Faith Lutheran Home. After her retirement in 1978, she assisted many elderly people with daily chores and errands. If someone needed her, she was there.

Wava was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage and the Sacred Heart Guild. She enjoyed her cooking, baking, gardening and, especially, her flower gardens. She dearly loved spending time with her family.

Her funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Osage with the Rev. Philip Recker officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, Osage.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, with a scripture service at 7 p.m.

Wava is survived by her husband, Roman; two daughters, Joeleen Samec and her husband, Richard, of New Hampton, and their children, Jerry, Randy, and Jill, Deanna Shoars and her husband, Michael, of Orchard, and their children, Chad and Chris; one sister-in-law, Ruth Krumlinde, of Cedar Falls; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Marian; and two brothers, Kenneth and Richard.
