ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Ila I. Kittleson, 94, of St. Ansgar, died on Sunday, May 6, 2001, at the Good Samaritan Center in St. Ansgar.

The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, at the First Lutheran Church in St. Ansgar, with the Rev. Robert Porisch officiating. Burial will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home in St. Ansgar.

Ila Bookhart was born on October 17, 1906 in Breda, Iowa, to Edward W. and Augusta (Sinn) Bookhart. She graduated from Ida Grove High School in 1924 and also graduated from the University of Iowa in 1929.

Ila married Sherwin R. Kittleson on April 28, 1930 in Mason City. She worked at the Public Library in St. Ansgar starting in July of 1949 and retiring in February of 1986 after 36 years.

She was the librarian at the St. Ansgar High School for nine years, concurrent with the public library position. The 1966 Saints Highlights (St. Ansgar High School Yearbook) was dedicated to her. Ila enjoyed stamp collecting, reading, her rose garden, fishing trips to Minnesota and bird watching.

She is survived by her children, Edward Kittleson and his wife, Mary, of Greene, Dr. Sherwin (Stan) Kittleson and his wife, Judi, of Angel Fire, N.M., Karen Bloom and her husband, Darrell, of Austin, Minn., and Roger Kittleson and his wife, Julie, of Waterloo; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Ila was preceded in death by her parents, her husband who died Dec. 13, 1990; and two sisters.
