OSAGE, IOWA — Leon K. Thome, 70, beloved husband of Joan, died Saturday (April 26, 2003) from an unfortunate farming accident that happened at his rural Riceville farm.

A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Visitation Catholic Church in Stacyville with Father Mark Reasoner and Father John Hemann officiating. Interment will be at Visitation Cemetery in Stacyville.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the church, with a 4 p.m. rosary and a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home of St. Ansgar, is in charge of arrangements.

Leon was a lifelong farmer and resident of Stacyville, Iowa. His love of the land was well known. He will be missed by his family and many friends. Leon and Joan spent winters in Yuma, Ariz., where he enjoyed desert trips and the sport of sand duning and desert railing.

Leon is preceded in death by one son, Bruce was killed in an auto accident in California in 1978; and one infant grandchild, Nathan, son of Peter and Cheryl Thome.

Also preceding him are his parents, Albert and Rose (Hoerter) Thome; sister, Arlene Grell, (known as Tootsie); and brother, Gene, (KIA Korean War). Also deceased is his former wife, Constance Badker (Duren)

Leon is survived by his wife, Joan (Hollinger); children, James (Babette) Thome of Earlham, Theresa (Roy) Deines of Scottsbluff, Nebraska, Denise (Michael) Johnson of Kanawha, Kevin (Shonna) of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Peter (Cheryl) Thome, of rural Stacyville, Christopher (Kelly) Thome of Stanwood, Washington, Catherine Logan and special friend, Verne Burk, of Rockwell; stepchildren, Robert Wood of Little Canada, Minnesota, Julie (Arthur) Morrison of Quincy, Michigan, Bruce (Lisa) of Altus, Okla; 32 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Arthur and Danial of Stacy-ville, Dale of Waterloo, and Mary Jane Foxen of New Haven.
