OSAGE, IOWA - Margaret Rice, 93, of Osage, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage.
Margaret was born April 24, 1909, in Pekin, Ill. At six years of age, she was adopted by Mrs. Ferd "Lena" Hartwig of Osage. Margaret was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church, south of Osage.
In 1930 she married Smith Rice and they spent most of their life in Osage. She was one of the original employees of the Faith Lutheran Home, where she worked for a few years. After retiring, she was an active volunteer in church and hospital work. Margaret was a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage. She also loved to fish.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Faith Lutheran Home in Osage with the Rev. Dennis Hanson and the Rev. Roy Ott officiating. Interment will be in the Osage Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Monday at the Faith Lutheran Home. Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage is in charge of arrangements.
Margaret is survived by three nieces, Joanne Decker and husband, Lester, of Osage, Gloria Rice, of Osage, and Marilyn Rice Horner and husband, Bill, of Ohio.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Smith, in 1966; her step-brother, Walter Hartwig, and nephews John Rice, Dr. Dean Rice and Robert "Bob" Hartwig.
