Rolland Cecil “Bub” Church, age 79, of Osage, died on Sunday, April 8, 2001, at the Mitchell County Regional Health Center in Osage, Iowa.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, April 11, at the First United Methodist Church in Osage. Rev. Karen Nicholas Duncan officiated and interment was in the Osage Cemetery, with Military Rites conducted by the Osage American Legion Post 278. The Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, was in charge of the arrangements.
“Bub” was born on December 20, 1921 north of Osage, the youngest son of Ray D. and Cecil (Hunter) Church. He attended area elementary schools and graduated from the Little Cedar High School. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944 and served several months in overseas duty. He was honorably discharged in 1946.
In 1947, he was united in marriage to Bonnie Coonradt. Bub and Bonnie started their farming life on a small farm in Floyd County. Over the next several years, they continued farming in many area communities. In 1951, they moved to a farm just east of Osage, where they remained until moving to the Runge Farm in 1980. After retiring in 1990, Bub and Bonnie moved into Osage where they remained until the time of his death.
Bub was a member of the Osage American Legion Post 278. He will be remembered for the pride he took in farming and raising his family.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his daughter, Sandy Newton of Osage; one sister, Vera Hickey; and one brother, Charles Church.
Those that survive him include his wife, Bonnie of Osage; two daughters, Lynda Adams of Long Beach, California and Deb Fischer of Miami, Florida; seven grandsons; three granddaughters; and several nieces and nephews.
