ST. ANSGAR, IOWA - Roy L. Hanson, 93, of St. Ansgar, died Saturday, January 5, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
His funeral will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Deer Creek Lutheran Church in rural Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 S. School St., St. Ansgar, (641) 736-4920.

ROY HANSONST. ANSGAR - Roy Leonard Hanson, 93, of St. Ansgar, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2002) at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church in rural Carpenter, with the Rev. Kathy Larson officiating. Interment will be in the First Lutheran Cemetery in St. Ansgar.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Schroeder & Sites Funeral Home, 207 South School St. in St. Ansgar.
Roy Leonard Hanson was born on Nov. 17, 1908, in Worth County, rural Carpenter, to Hans Peter and Lena (Severson) Hanson. He became a child of God in baptism on Dec. 26, 1908, at the Deer Creek Lutheran Church in Carpenter, with the Rev. M. E. Waldeland officiating. He was confirmed March 16, 1923, by Rev. M. E. Waldeland. He graduated from the Carpenter High School in 1925 and was the last living member of this class.
He never married and lived his life on the farm where he was born and raised. He began renting his cropland out in 1978 while continuing to raise Herefords. Roy took pride in raising top quality Hereford cattle. A pair of his calves were featured on the June 1979 front cover of the American Hereford Journal. Roy also served on the board of directors and then as president of the Worth County Coop Oil from 1954 to 1975.
Roy entered the St. Ansgar Good Samaritan Center in November 1999.
He was preceded in death by his father, in 1912; his mother, in 1955; a brother, Mervin, in 1929; a brother, Alfred, in 1969; and a sister, Gilma Hendrickson, in 2000.
Left to cherish his memory are his neices and nephews and their families, Ivadene Dale of San Jose, Calif., Horace Hendrickson and his wife, Ann of Northwood, Marcella Olson and her husband, Ron of Apple Valley, Minn., Ardis Sorenson and her husband, Carroll of Thornton, Colo., Duane Hanson and his wife, Sharon of Thompson, N.D., Merle Hanson and his wife, Jeanette of Northwood, Sharyl Engelhardt and her husband, Jon of Adel, Ivanell Howard and her husband, Earle of Grandby, Colo., and Audrey McIntosh and her husband, Richard of Jefferson City, Mo.
Roy was a delight to all of us with his wit and his sharp mind.
