Delwin Lloyd Borchardt, age 78, of Osage, Mitchell county, Iowa, died on Thursday, October 9, 2008, at the Faith Home in Osage. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage with Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage with military honors at the grave by Osage American Legion Post 278.
Delwin was born October 15, 1929, at Plymouth, Iowa, the son of Lloyd and Esther (Schmidt) Borchardt.
He attended Northwood schools and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1946. Delwin served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. On August 13, 1955, he married Doris Clark at Osage, after which they lived in Mitchell. Doris died in December of 1987. Delwin farmed and worked at White Farm in Charles City for 32 years. He was a member of the Osage American Legion. Delwin enjoyed collecting farm toys, fishing, hunting, gardening, baking bread, and having coffee with his friends. Delwin especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Delwin is survived by four daughters, Pat (Jerry) Durbin of Osage, and daughter, Jordan, Janet Penfold of Osage, and children, Nathan, Chase, and Hayley, Mari (Dave) Gerbig of Osage, and daughters, Mandy and Misty, Rhonda (David) Schroeder of Osage and daughters, Lindsay and Alyssa; two brothers, Darryl (Nita) Borchardt of Martelle, Iowa, Delbert (Betty) Borchardt of Riceville; a sister-in-law, Betty Clark of Orchard; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Doris; a sister, Arliene Walk, and her husband, Paul; and a son-in-law, Joel Penfold.
Arrangements were by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home, Osage, Iowa -- 641-732-3706.
