Richard Allan "Dick" Bower, age 78, of Osage, Mitchell County, Iowa, died on Saturday, May 3, 2008, at his home in Osage. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage, with Pastor Gary Gilbert officiating. Burial was in the Osage Cemetery.

Dick was born on June 14, 1929, at Osage, the son of John and Ethel (Richardson) Bower. He was baptized in the Osage Methodist Church. Dick went to Burr Oak No. 2 School through eighth grade and graduated from Riceville High School in 1947.

On August 16, 1949, Dick married Eleanor Miles. To this union, two girls, Brenda and Monica, and two boys, Eric and Glen "George" were born. Dick farmed with his father for many years and retired in 1992. Dick and Eleanor moved to Osage in 1994.

He loved to travel, bowl, and read until poor eyesight befell him. Always a civic minded person, Dick was Burr Oak Township Trustee for forty years, president of the Burr Oak school board for twelve years, and treasurer of the Osage Rural Fire Department for twenty years.

Dick is survived by his wife, Eleanor Bower of Osage; a daughter, Monica (Hank) Rgnonti of Lakeville, Minnesota; two sons, Eric (Verna) Bower of Robbinsdale, Minnesota, Glen "George" (Lori) Bower of Spirit Lake; a son-in-law, James Klehn of Burnsville, Minnesota; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary (Duane) Abben of Little Cedar.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one brother, Marshal Bower; and a daughter, Brenda Klehn in 2004.

Funeral arrangements were by Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home (641)732-3706.
