The tolling of the Norwegian Lutheran Church bell last Sunday morning announcing the death of Mr. Erick Thorson, who died at the home of his son, O. E. Thorson about ten o'clock Saturday night.
His health had been poorly of late and it was known that he was suffering from heart disease but it was thought that he might live for sometime. Saturday he seemed as well as usual. He ate his supper and went to bed. His son heard him up and went to his room, fortunately to be with him during the last few minutes of his life, for he died almost immediately.
Erick Thorson was born in the parish of Gol, Hallingdal, Norway, April 16, 1823. He died December 28, 1901, age 78 years, 8 months, and 13 days. He came to America in 1851 and living in Rock County, Wisconsin until 1853 when he came to St. Ansgar, Iowa. In 1864, he made a trip to Norway and came back here in 1866. He was married the same year to Ragnild Anderson who died 12 years ago. One son was born to them, Ole E. with whom he has made his home. He also left three stepchildren: Mrs. Robert Jensen of Carpenter, Iowa; Ole Anderson of Silver Lake; Nels Anderson and Nelson of Albert Lea. Two brothers, Halvor and Erick and one sister, Mrs. Hansen of Deer Creek also survive him.
The funeral was held at Norwegian Lutheran church yesterday being conducted by Rev. J. Olson who preached from Hebrews 9:27-28. The funeral was highly attended.
