A Mass of Resurrection was held on Tuesday, September 3, 2007 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Riceville, Iowa, for James Francis Steffen, age 92 of Riceville, who died on Friday August 31, 2007 at Methodist Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery in New Haven, Mitchell County, Iowa.

James was the son of Jake and Mary Fritz Steffen -- born October 18, 1914 at the family farm in Brownsville, Iowa. A graduate of Riceville High School, he was united in marriage to Delores Theis on June 19, 1948 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage.

Survivors include his wife Delores, of Riceville; his sons: Michael and his wife Carol of Silver Springs, Maryland, Richard and his wife Gail of West Des Moines, Iowa, Tom of West Palm Beach, Florida, and a daughter, Susan and her husband Paul Flanagan of Emerald Hills, California; his nine grandchildren; a sister Irene and her husband Harold Adams of Osage, Iowa, and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Steffen of Charles City.
