Sheryl Jean Gonnerman was born on September 9th, 1941 at Loup City, Nebraska, the oldest daughter of Clyde and Emma Gilbert. Sheryl received her education in Loup City, graduating in 1960. She entered the Grace Bible Institute, Omaha, Nebraska, in the fall of 1960, and graduated with a Bachelor of Religious Education.
Sheryl married Gary Gonnerman on June 8, 1968, in Bellevue, Nebraska. They lived in Clear Lake, Iowa for six and one half, where Gary pastored the Clear Lake Regular Baptist Church. They then moved to Mt. Ayr, Iowa to the Mt. Ayr Regular Baptist Church. In March of 1984, they moved to St. Ansgar, where Gary pastors the St. Ansgar Baptist Church.
Sheryl personally received Jesus Christ as her Savior at seven years of age. She dedicated her life completely to the Lord when she was 16 years old and has faithfully served Him until her death. She loved teaching children God's Word in her home and church. She taught the beginner children's classes for nearly 25 years at the Iowa Regular Baptist Camp, Ventura, Iowa. She wrote much of the curriculum that she taught for camp, VBS, and other children's classes.
Her passion was to seek to lead others to faith in Christ, and to teach believers to grow spiritually and live for Him. That passion was also evident in the home in teaching and training her children and grandchildren. Sheryl never chose the simplest or easiest way, but gave herself whole-heartedly in everything that she did.
Sheryl is survived by her husband, Gary, of St. Ansgar, two daughters; Becky Huang, her husband, Jesse, of Mason City; Rachel Hershey and her husband, Roy, of St. Ansgar; two sons; Randy and his wife, Becky, of St. Ansgar; and Richard and his wife, Amber, of St. Ansgar, and 13 grandchildren.
